May 1,2008 BRUSH FIRE!! (from News Channel 13) Fire officials in Brevard County are looking to the possibility that a brush fire in Viera may have been intentionally set. The huge brush fire in Brevard County died down overnight, but firefighters expected the blaze to flare back as weather conditions dry out and the winds pick up. "As it gets warmer today, and the humidity starts to drop a little bit, things are going to start drying out, and we anticipate some pretty good fire behavior today," said Brad Hall, of Brevard County Fire Rescue. The fire broke out late Thursday night near Clubhouse and Manchester drives in Viera. It quickly spread to between 60 and 70 acres. Firefighters said gusty and shifting winds made containing the fire difficult. The fire put nearly 100 homes in four nearby subdivisions in danger. No evacuations have been ordered, but some screened in porches were affected by the fire. People that showed up in the area trying to get home were told they weren't allowed in. “The closer I got to the area, the more concerned I got. When I came to the entrance here, you couldn't go in. The police said there was no mandatory evacuation at this time, but they couldn't let anybody in," said George Cyr from Brevard County. "Horrible. All I could see was orange, smoke, black. I was so worried. I have five dogs that what was going through my mind," said Lindsey Mailman from Viera
